Visit to the Daegu International Fire & Safety Expo (May 22-24, 2024) - EXCO, Korea
This year, just like last year, I had the opportunity to visit the Daegu International Fire & Safety Expo, which was held successfully once again.
The event, which saw a record-breaking scale this year, featured 389 exhibitors and 1,397 booths covering an area of 30,000 square meters, an increase from last year’s 378 exhibitors.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Fire Safety Expo has a significant reason for being held in Daegu.
Do you know why? The International Fire Safety Expo began in 2004, a year after the tragic Daegu subway fire disaster in 2003, to enhance public safety awareness and foster the growth and development of the domestic fire industry.
It’s a highly beneficial event that introduces new firefighting equipment and cutting-edge technologies each year, ranking among the top five specialized fire safety expos in the world.
Inside the exhibition hall, several ambulances with flashing lights and fire trucks extending ladders up to 47 meters high were on display.
Outside - between the halls, advanced equipment, including fire trucks with ladders reaching approximately 70 meters, negative pressure ambulances, fire pump trucks, and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) analysis vehicles, were lined up.
Various fire safety companies showcased their latest products at the expo.
Particularly noteworthy were the numerous products related to the fourth industrial revolution, such as electric vehicle fire suppression equipment and wearable devices for tracking firefighters.
There was a significant focus on new methods to address the issue of water resource wastage in fire services caused by lithium-ion battery "thermal runaway."
Unlike last year, which saw many underground water tanks for installation at charging stations or parking lots, this year’s spotlight was on portable water tanks that firefighters can carry and set up.
SG Safety, We are a company specializing in manufacturing life rafts, participated in the expo and garnered much attention for their electric vehicle fire suppression products.
We have applied their raft manufacturing technology to develop a portable water tank for electric vehicle fire suppression.
Electric vehicle fires are notoriously challenging to extinguish, often requiring the vehicle to be submerged in water for complete extinguish.
The ‘Portable Electric Vehicle Fire Suppression Tank’ by SG Safety is designed to be set up around the vehicle and filled with water, submerging the vehicle’s battery to extinguish the fire.
Using specialized rubber technology, SG Safety has managed to reduce the tank's weight from the original 140 kg to 75 kg.
Moreover, Our design allows the tank to be draped over the vehicle, eliminating the need to lift the burning car.
Its foldable rubber construction makes it easy to store, and it can be quickly deployed using the cylinders from firefighters' air breathing apparatus.
In addition, we exhibited featured various products such as PADTEX’s asphyxiation fire blanket, that have been recognized for their performance in Europe, fire escape masks, dual-purpose car extinguishers, fire extinguishers for lithium-ion battery, and portable multi-functional composite gas detection equipment using FTIR technology.
The 21st Daegu International Fire Safety Expo will be held from May 28 to May 30 2025 next year.
We hope to see you there!
